This 19th-century coastal landscape painting is from John Derian's curated collection of antique art. This piece by Clarkson Stanfield is an oil on canvas depicting the port of Genoa, framed in an antique gilded frame. Known affectionately as “Stanny,” Clarkson Stanfield (1793-1867) was one of Britain’s leading marine and landscape painters of the 19th-century. A former sailor, he brought firsthand knowledge of the sea to his art, and was celebrated for his dramatic sense of scale.
